"Paisley? Are you alright?" she asked, pulling out of the hug that lasted longer than I had hoped.
"Hm?" I asked, still thinking. "Oh. Um... yeah." I stood still, afraid to move.
Cassie just stared at me. Her happy face slowly turning worried. "Pais, it doesn't seem like you're okay."
I was scared to do anything for fear that I might beat her. Suddenly, I couldn't control myself. "MARRIED!?" I screamed. "What do you mean you're MARRIED?"
She took a step back, scared. She tried to talk but no words would come out. "I- I'm sorry, but I thought you'd be happy about this," she stuttered.
"Well you thought wrong!" I yelled. "How could you marry someone without even telling me? I tell you the second I get a crush on someone and I have to hear about a man in your life after you marry him! How is that fair?"
"Paisley, wait!" she called as I ran out the door. "Come back!"
I got in my car and sped off, crying. It may seem ridiculous, but it really isn't fair. We used to talk about how someday I could be her maid of honor and how I could help her pick out her dress, but that's not going to happen.
My phone started to ring. I ignored it, assuming it was Cassie. By the time I finally got home my phone was ringing off the hook. "Dang it! Will people just leave me alone?" I exclaimed as I turned off my cell phone. I ran upstairs and slipped into bed, not wanting anything else to do with the world.
When I woke up I sat in bed for a good hour, thinking about what Cassie did. Did I have any right to be mad at her? Of course I did.
"Mom!" I heard from downstairs. "Skye is calling! She says she's not going to stop bugging us until you answer the phone!"
I walked downstairs to see Matthew holding the house phone. I grabbed it and put it to my ear. "Hello?" I asked.
"PAISLEY!" she exclaimed.
"Yes?" I asked, in no mood to be fun.
"Cassie called me and told me what happened! You have every right to be mad, but you're scaring her!"
I started to cry. I tried to talk but I couldn't push past my tears.
I heard Skye sigh. "I'm coming over," she said and hung up.
About ten minutes later the doorbell rang. I pulled myself off the couch and opened the door. "You're scaring everyone," Skye said as she let herself in. "Cassie blabbed to your entire family, even Jack and he wants to see you. He loves you and--"
"I'm breaking up with him," I interrupted.
Her eyes went wide. "I know I don't like him Paisley, but there's no need to break up with him."
I rolled my eyes. "Now's no time to be cracking jokes, Skye."
She took a step back and eyed me. "Hm..." she said, rubbing an invisible beard. "Why are you breaking up with him, then?"
"Because after I kissed him on New Years it just didn't feel right. There's someone else out there for both of us."
"No. I don't need to hear it."
"Did he do something to you? Did he hurt you?"
I chuckled. "No. It just didn't feel right. He needs to go and that's it."
She stood up straight, knowing she wasn't going to get anywhere with me. "Well... I have someone I'd like to introduce you to sometime, then. He's a very nice person and I'm sure you two would hit it off."
I smiled slightly. "Thanks Skye, I'd love to meet him but let me get everything straightened out first. Who is it?"
"Well, his name is--" she began but her phone rang. "Sorry, gotta go, talk to you later!" she exclaimed as she ran out the door.
I pondered who it could possibly be that Skye wanted to introduce me to. Oh well, I suppose I'll find out soon enough.
The rest of my day was spent taking care of whiny toddlers and scolding Jackson for stealing candy. He had gained five pounds since the twins were born and it was really starting to worry me. When I finally got some time to myself it was spent in the hot tub.
After about two hours in the hot tub I heard grass crunching and weeping. I didn't open my eyes, for I thought it was a neighbor. Then again, all of my neighbors are my kids...
"Paisley," my sister's voice broke me out of my trance. "We need to talk. I have been calling you all day and you deserve an explanation."
I sat still, knowing I couldn't get myself out of this one.
"His name is Macy Maroni and he's standing right here."
"So..." I started, taking it all in. "Your name is Cassie Maroni?"
"No," she said, taking in a sigh of relief, probably from realizing I wasn't going to kill her. "I'm Cassie Parker-Maroni."
She looked at me and smiled. Her smile always made my heart melt. She apologized and I forgave her, wanting this whole thing to be over with. Macy was quite nice and I could tell he really loved Cassie. I let them be, knowing that I'd get to know Macy with time.
The next morning my phone rang. The picture of Jack and I came up and my heart broke. I knew I had to break up with him. I answered the phone and told him to meet me at the park in ten minutes.
When I got there I waited for about five minutes until he finally arrived. When he spotted me he smiled warmly, making it even harder for me. This definitely wasn't going to be easy.
"Hey babe," he said, grabbing my hands in his. "I've missed you. I feel like you've been avoiding me."
I cringed. I had been avoiding him.
We had been dating for almost a month and our relationship was already coming to an end.
I decided to get it over with. I pulled my hands out of his and took a deep breath. "We need to break up," I blurted out. "You are a very nice person but you aren't the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. And I'm sure there's someone better for you out there, but you're never going to find her unless you get the chance to. Skye is going to introduce me to someone who she thinks I'll really hit it off with and I'm looking forward to it. I'm sorry Jack, but this just isn't working."
I turned around and left before he could say anything. Harsh? Possibly, but I wanted my life to go back to the way it was. Before James, before Anna-Leigh changed completely. I liked it most when I woke up in the morning with different colored hair than I went to sleep with, or when I woke up with tattoos that I would never get rid of.
What happened? Post-tumor life sucks sometimes. I didn't like that everything was changing and I couldn't stop it.
Cassie was married, Chase was growing up, my kids were coming and going, and I had two failed relationships in a few short months. The strangest part of the whole thing is Anna-Leigh maturing and having a kid.
Why am I sad about changing? The person I was before this challenge was... sad.
You may think I'm a big baby for complaining about this. Well, I am. I've just never been one for change.
My cell phone started ringing. "Hello?" I answered, content with my most recent decisions.
"Hello, is this Miss Paisley Parker?" the voice on the other end asked.
Dang. I forgot to look at the caller ID. "Yes it is."
"Your tests came back. You have nothing serious wrong with you. Just the stomach flu."
I took a deep breath in. "Well I've certainly had the stomach flu for a while now, then."
"Yes, well I'm not sure what it was before now, but after this has passed you should feel as good as new."
"Thanks," I said and hung up. Right then I was feeling so happy.
I put my phone is my pocket and decided that my content-ness was something to be celebrated, even though I was sick. So, I called up Skye, Hadley and Calista and I headed out to the Grind. That is if they actually show up this time! I still haven't forgotten about New Years, challenge moms!
When I arrived at the Grind it was instinct to order a drink, but I quickly realized that I was pregnant. So, I ordered three drinks for my friends and waited happily for them.
When they finally showed up I was happy to hug Calista but Hadley was already drinking. I looked over at Skye and she smirked. "You don't deserve my epic-ness," she stated and grabbed the drink from the tray.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed Skye's hand. We ran over to the dance floor and, well, what else do you do on the dance floor?
Calista and Hadley danced together the whole time while Skye and I spent the time with each other.
When the night was finally over I went home and slipped into bed, exhausted.
In the middle of the night I woke up to sharp labor pains.
Welcome to the world, baby 34, Jack Parker!

Hey everyone! I guess I lied; I am NOT going to be writing the post first! It is WAY too hard! But I AM going to be changing the way I write. I'll actually take my time when I write these posts. Also, I got Pose Player. I don't know how long I'm going to keep it because my game is all of the sudden glitching, but let's hope it's not Pose Player making it glitch! I hope you all liked this post even though it wasn't the best. The next post SHOULD be a lot better and there will be a nice surprise!
Aw, loved it Pais... although the break up with Jack was sad. :'(
ReplyDeleteI hope Paisley finds someone else she loves as much as Jack loved her.
~Calista Smith
